Ex president Herbert Hoover and his son Alan arrive in West Yellowstone for a two week fishing trip with friends. Hoover calls politics off limits, previews interest in fishing lore, and jokes about lemonade while reflecting on publicity and media.

Helena Mont July 29 Attorney General Naglie ruled that state highway patrolmen may arrest drunken drivers anywhere in Montana whether inside or outside cities. He said the 1929 law and the highway patrol act are not in conflict and both laws may be enforced with fines remitted to the state treasury.
Secretary Henry Wallace warned that a further 10 days of drought could force the United States to import corn from Argentina. He projected possible yields from 1.2 to 1.7 billion bushels, well below the normal 2.5 billion, and noted rain is crucial in the coming days. WPA reports 32,010 drought workers in western states with a regional quota of 65,000.
Turlock Calif July 29 Combined Townsend clubs urge Dr Townsend to relinquish control of the Carp to a national committee. The resolution calls for a governing board from the combined clubs to take further action at a later date.
Circuit Judge James T. Brand ruled that the state superintendent of banks cannot require solvent bank creditors to bear more than their share of losses in Oregon. The decision affects all state bank liquidations since 1932 by limiting assessments to each shareholder's proportion of the asset to liability spread.

Edmonton July 29 Registration of all bonafide Alberta citizens was ordered by the Social Credit government. The move is the first step toward paying the promised 25 dollar monthly basic dividend by Premier William Aberhart. Citizens must provide earnings and debts, and residency since 1934 to qualify.
A party of Eleventh Bombardment squadron officers led by Lieutenant D. R. Lyon will arrive in Butte on August 5 with three B-10B aircraft to survey air base sites and discuss data with local officials. They will test landing fields and inspect towns for quarters and aircraft service, as part of a broader tour beginning August 2 via Hamilton Field.
