Grouse Fire burns near Wise River in Beaverhead Deerlodge NF
Dry conditions and lightning from weekend storms spread wildfires across southwest Montana with active behavior around Butte Anaconda and Philipsburg. The Grouse Fire, started July 25, grows in heavy timber near Grouse Creek ten miles southwest of Wise River, hindering access with dead and down timber and limited landing zones for air support despite three helicopters aiding initial drops.

In UM basement labs 13 students from several states joined a eight day Summer Exploratory Program course. They studied hair samples bodily fluids and bone ID under microscopes and learned crime scene processing.
