Rancher Struck by Lightning in Jefferson Island
Arthur Shaw a well known Jefferson Island rancher was struck by lightning yesterday while irrigating crops. He was found unconscious and severely burned and was taken to St James hospital via Dr Lawrence Packard of Whitehall. He is in critical condition awaiting further treatment. Five Die in Mandan Gun Mystery Slaying

Woman Dies in Fire at Grand Coulee
One woman burned to death as flames engulfed a full block of the Grand Coulee dam area business district. The victim was identified as Mrs. Mary Massart, wife of Acting Mayor Larry Massart, found among the smoking ruins of Massart Plumbing and Heat. Damage was estimated at about $100,000. Spanish Civil War pushes Gandesa front toward Alcaniz
In Hendaye France on July 28 the Spanish Civil War saw the South Catalonia army under a former stone mason advance beyond Gandesa toward Alcaniz. Valencia endured an insurgent air raid killing 18 including a Danish observer and a Chinese cook aboard the Kellwyn. The attack totaled 115 bombs. Tarragona also suffered heavy damage with no casualty count available. The Franco government did not claim control of Gandesa, a key link between fronts.
