Fire Survivor Details Cave Escape From Forest Blaze
Dr M M Knechtel of Washington DC and four companions escaped a wildfire by taking refuge in a cave in the Little Rockies near Malta. The party crawled through heat and smoke after a shift in wind pushed flames toward them. Bakers and Rawles died at the cave mouth. Brockunier staggered on and was found alive but burned, later dying in Harlem.

Forest blaze rages in Little Rockies near Zortman

Pioneering Montana placer miner David Hogan dead at 81
David Hogan 81 a well known Gold Creek resident and Montana pioneer died at the family ranch at midnight. Born in Limerick Ireland December 25 1855 he came to the United States at 13 and settled in Connecticut before moving to San Francisco and then Montana in 1878. He mined for placer gold at Bannack and Pioneer and later ran a hotel and mercantile in Gold Creek. He was married in 1899 to Emily Hogan and survived by his wife and several children.

One Man Killed As Florida Tropical Storm Strikes Key Area
A tropical storm lashed Florida on July 28 with gusts over 60 mph, mostly missing crowded resorts but causing high tides and heavy rain. One Florida Light and Power lineman Elbert L.
