US Navy warplanes from three carriers off North Vietnam sank 132 enemy boats and damaged 100 more in a Saturday action described as the largest bag of boats for the war. Nearly 200 aircraft chased boats on rivers canals and coastal waterways through the southern panhandle.
U S planes engaged 232 boats and an unnamed ship from the 19th parallel to Cape Mui Ron as bomb damage to southern routes forced the enemy to rely on boats for southward movement. The strike came after announcements that two more American planes were shot down, bringing lost aircraft in North Vietnam to 872.
Hubert H. Humphrey rode into Los Angeles with police protection and a message of progress and reconciliation but faced hecklers as about 100 demonstrators gathered near the Spanish American neighborhood market El Mercado after an airport welcome.

Firefighters battled a blaze in 88 degree heat Saturday afternoon starting from a fence by the Mirror Bar at 1700 block Harrison Ave. Two engines from Quartz and one from Southside fought for nearly two hours with help from three off duty personnel. The fire spread to 1710 Harrison Ave destroying roof and attic of a vacant frame structure and a rear garage. A 2400 volt line was isolated by Montana Power after arrival.
