Air Force jets bombed two surface to air missile sites in North Vietnam. One site was destroyed and the other damaged. Three F105s were shot down from a 46-plane attack. two pilots parachuted to safety. Hanoi radio claimed six U.S. planes down and three pilots captured.
Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey said Johnson’s new Viet Nam decision could touch the lives of thousands of American families. He spoke en route to Minneapolis after White House talks, noting burdens in security and defense without abandoning goals at home.
James C Harris longtime Butte High School vice principal and 43 year educator will retire August 27 after 31 years in the Butte school system. His resignation is filed with the board. Montana educator Harris praised by City Superintendent Charles C Davis for his devotion discipline and counselor role. He and his wife Roseanne Smith reside at 2028 Lowell with two grandchildren.
The House approved the federal health care bill extending Social Security hospital care and health services for older Americans by a 307 to 116 vote in Washington AP reports.
The Butte Anaconda and Pacific Railway Co filed July 1 against the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen Local 580 and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen Local 500. Judge W D Murray dismissed the action without prejudice after no answer or motion for summary judgment was served. The dismissal dissolved a temporary restraining order halting a brief BRT strike and a hearing was set for Wednesday in Anaconda where meetings resumed on a job protection plan with no strikes expected.
Chairman Daniel J. OConnell said the Board of County Commissioners will approve a final form resolution for an 825000 bond issue to finance interceptor lines in the Metro Sewer System. If passed, it will be by OConnell and Gary F. Garrett with Hubert J. Johnson on leave. A Tuesday hearing drew under 70 protests against assessments. Taxpayers may prepay to save money after final approval. City Atty. W. N. Geagan planned to file protest papers Tuesday night but was delayed by heavy business.
The House passed a 7.5 billion housing bill sending it to President Johnson after a 251 to 168 vote. It funds rent grants for low income families the elderly and disaster victims over four years with 350 million for 375000 apartments and retains urban renewal and public housing programs.

A Western Montana College employee claimed a hidden cache in Blodgett Canyon northwest of Hamilton held 1500 rounds of ammunition, a pistol, food, gear, and a life raft. Sheriff Jack Cain said the man identified items and denied illegal motives, noting plans to live in the mountains for months.
John W. Fox Jr. a veteran pilot and longtime instructor, died in a Great Falls hospital after a week with cancer. A native of Litchfield Nebraska, 58, he owned Fox Flying Service in Butte for 30 years before moving to the Great Falls Dutton area in 1954 to run Fox Crop Spraying Service. Fox taught many Butte pilots, served as Navy flight instructor in World War II, and survived prior crashes. He was a member of local Masonic bodies and the Shrine. He is survived by his wife Hazel Warren, whom he married in 1953.
