Montana Standard reports the Gallatin Valley Sharp Shooters qualified for back-to-back Olympic appearances. The club aims to extend its record with top shooters competing on the world stage.
The Fair runs Thursday through Saturday with a two-day rodeo, freestyle motocross shows by Levi Renz’s 406 FMX, a cornhole tournament, pie-eating contest, cake auction, live music by High Ore and Little Texas, and 4-H animal judging outside the Civic Center. Commissioner Josh O’Neill calls the event the community’s party and the 4-H kids’ main showcase.
Spanky Spangler, a 75 year old daredevil, plans a final jump in Butte after a history of death defying stunts. He has earlier leaped from the Finlen Hotel lit on fire and jumped from the Original Mine headframe.
A full size bronze statue honoring former Montana Governor Judy Martz will be dedicated at the state Capitol on Monday with public attendance and a lunch. Martz, Montana’s first female governor, died October 30 2017 in Butte at age 74 after pancreatic cancer. She was born July 28 1943 in Big Timber and held roles from Miss Rodeo Montana to U S Olympic speed skating.
