After nearly four weeks of intermittent bargaining the Anaconda Co and 26 Montana unions show little progress and no new talks scheduled. The United Steelworkers and local unions weigh wage hikes of about 1.07 hourly, while productivity changes remain unsettled.
A three judge panel gave tacit approval to a state remap plan passed by the Legislature in a special session. The panel scheduled Oct. 1 for further hearings on constitutionality of lines amid an imminent Constitutional Convention election. The plan creates a 100 member House and 50 member Senate with delegates elected from House districts.
Apollo 15, crewed by David Scott, Alfred Worden, and James Irwin, lifts from Cape Kennedy and enters Earth orbit. A faulty switch caused a warning light and a brief electrical concern, which Mission Control says will not affect the lunar landing plan.
Washington reports government says voluntary settlement with AFL-CIO United Transportation Union stalls with 20 percent of U S rail traffic halted. Assistant Labor Secretary W J Usery Jr warns options including emergency legislation may be explored while talks remain stalemated. If no deal by Friday the union may widen walkout affecting 165 000 workers and more railroads.

United Telegraph Workers president E L Hageman announced a settlement ending the nationwide strike. Pickets would be removed Monday night and 17 000 workers would return to their jobs at 12 01 a m Wednesday. The contract runs two years with a 10 percent general wage increase now and a 9 percent raise later. The average Western Union wage at year end 1970 was 3 37 an hour.
New York Times reports Elizabeth Taylor has become a grandmother at age 39 as her son Michael Wilding Jr. has welcomed a child. The glamour icon and Richard Burton are currently cruising on a yacht, proceeding with their travels.
Butte school trustees and Silver Bow County Commissioners vote to keep Superintendent Charles Davis at 24000 for the 1971 72 year after an opinion found no legal basis to lower the prior contract. A dissenting minority opposed the motion as others supported it.

Anaconda Co says first half 1971 consolidated net income is about 13.363 million dollars or 61 cents a share, down from 27.141 million dollars in 1970. Company president John B. Place cites lower income from Chile investments, nationalized since 1969, as the main earnings drag with no dividends from Chile in 1971.
The Butte council okayed a preliminary city budget with two more fire department resuscitators funded by shaving $700 from the overtime account under capital outlay. The measure includes noncumulative time off for overtime and preserves the chief’s request for additional equipment. The public budget hearing is scheduled for August 4.
Philipsburg area man Baker 31 arraigned on first degree murder charge in death Sunday. Held without bail at Granite County Jail after initial arraignment before Justice of the Peace J. J. Winston. Baker was then moved to Granite County authorities and appeared before Forrest H. Steube in Philipsburg.
