Cairo reports King Farouk forcibly removed by a new military regime. Narriman, age 18, queen, accompanied by their 6 month old son, flees into exile. Cabinet proclaims infant ruler Ahmed Fatid II of Egypt and the Sudan, signaling continuation of the regime’s line.
Tehran July 26 Mossadegh notified Britain Iran is willing to begin talks on payment for nationalized Anglo Iranian Oil properties. He proposed using Iranian courts for disputes and may deduct part of compensation from any settlement. A new cabinet under his control was formed, with the war ministry shift. In Cairo, Farouk was ousted in a coup. Naguib led a regency and exile for the king, with Maher and others appointed to govern.
Lester Coffin of Susanville California was elected president of the Interstate Association of Public Lands at its concluding session in Butte. He succeeds N W Edwards of Collins Montana. Hugh Shanberger of Reno Nevada was named vice president and Sam Tunks of Montpelier Idaho as secretary treasurer. Thirty representatives from nine Western states attended at the Finlen hotel.
David B. Blazer's will probated Saturday left five dollars to each person who called on him during his last illness. The document filed in Muncie Indiana outlines modest bequests as a token of appreciation from the deceased.
Butte 4H and FFA fat stock show and sale dates announced for September 18 to 21 at Montana Livestock Auction yards. Event, sixth in Butte, is led by James B. Glover Jr. and the Chamber of Commerce with local sponsors. Entries limited to enrolled 4H and Future Farmers. animals must be owned by exhibitors and meet age rules. Livestock received Sept. 18, judging Sept. 19, sale Sept. 20.
Moscow reports through Tass denounce both Adlai E. Stevenson and Dwight D. Eisenhower as candidates. Stevenson is labeled a spokesman for middle west industrial and financial interests and a true partisan of cold war diplomacy. Eisenhower is portrayed as lacking sufficient background and with foreign policy views similar to Truman's.
Williams and Kane reach the state amateur final at Butte Country Club after defeating Helena duo Tom Mulholland and Gene Fehlig. Kane and Williams set to start the 36 hole title bout at 8 am, while women’s finalist Jewell Granley Lee and Jane Hibbard duel at 10 am for the women’s crown. An unexpected hole in one by Augie Johnson highlighted the day.
Stanley Raymond Fitze 22 of 727 East Park Butte died instantly when thrown from a one and a half ton truck on the Butte Anaconda highway 3.7 miles east of Anaconda Saturday night. Driver Eugene Tierney 21 and passenger John Robbins 22 were uninjured. The vehicle overturned after hitting a culvert. Fitze worked at Snell's automobile shop. Survivors include wife Nancy Lou, daughter Vickie Lee, mother Mrs Rose Fitze of Walkerville, brothers Richard and Wallace Fitz, and Harry Leonard. Body sent to Duggan's Merrill mortuary in Butte. Investigating officers were state patrolmen and sheriff deputies.
Buenos Aires reports Mrs Eva Peron the first lady and political influence in President Juan Peron's regime died Saturday night after a lingering illness. Official age listed as 30. Cause not confirmed as cancer. Dignitaries at the presidential mansion and crowds outside waited as radio announced the death at 8 25 p m.
Chicago July 26 Democratic National Chairman Frank E. McKinney announced the 108 member national committee after conferring with Gov. Adlai E. Stevenson. The Montana delegation includes Leo C. Graybill as national committeeman and Mrs. Wallace Kingsbury as national committee woman.
At Hamm's Tavern near Boulder three masked men held proprietor Art Hamm at gunpoint about 10 p m Friday night. They bound and gagged him in a back room and stole more than $400 in cash plus 55 in checks, then fled. Hamm freed himself at 3 a m and notified police. sheriff John H Williams described the incident and provided suspect descriptions.
Stanley Mislak aged 34 paid a 5 dollar fine in Greenfield district court Saturday for passing a stop sign. He is employed erecting stop signs for the state.
Heavy midsummer rains drenched the Korean peninsula on Sunday grounding most Allied air activity and limiting fighting to patrol clashes and artillery duels. Maj. Gen. James C. Fry of the U.S. Second Division vowed not to abandon Old Baldy and T-Bone hills, warning Reds could threaten the main Allied line if they control the outposts. The Chinese Reds held Old Baldy after a week of bitter combat, while rain slowed operations along the western front.
South Korea President Syngman Rhee will stand for re election on August 5. He gave no public statement but consented to Liberal party nomination by fixing his candidacy.
President Philip Murray of the CIO steelworkers union ordered 680000 workers back to mills and mines after reaching complete agreement with the steel industry ending a 55 day strike. Iron ore workers in Minnesota saw wage scale adjustments, with immediate raise to 4 of a cent spread and a July 1 increase to 5 2 cents, prompting resumed production as lines remained picketed during wage finalization.
Bandit Gerhardt Arthur Puff, one of America's ten most wanted, was shot in a Manhattan hotel gun battle after fatally wounding FBI Agent Joseph Brock. Puff fired first, was wounded in the left leg, and died at Roosevelt Hospital. clerk Hy Denmark described the intense shootout as like a movie scene.
Employers and union committees will hold further talks Sunday to end the deadlock over a new contract. The Butte Teamsters had scheduled a strike for midnight Sunday after Friday negotiations failed to yield an agreement. No updates were released after Saturday's session.
CONVENTION HALL Chicago July 26. The Democratic party placed Sen John J Sparkman of Alabama beside Adlai Stevenson for the battle against the Republicans as it adjourned its 31st national convention in a flow of outward harmony.
Sparkman accepted the vice presidential nomination pledging to spread democracy to all Americans and unity within the party. Stevenson chose Sparkman, prompting cheers, amid tense debates over civil rights and loyalty oaths. Kefauver drew interest for the spot, but Sparkman was favored by leaders despite opposition from civil rights advocates.
In Denver on July 26 Republican leaders Eisenhower and Nixon blasted the Stevenson Sparkman Democratic ticket as a continuation of President Truman's policies. Eisenhower labeled the ticket a one plank defense of Truman, while Nixon dismissed the new faces as still the same old deal.

Preliminary figures show Montana city budgets rising in at least seven towns led by Great Falls at 4,049,278. Bozeman, Butte, Missoula, Glendive and Billings also report increases with hearings on Aug 6 and final levies set Aug 11. Budgets funded by higher taxes, growth in valuations, leftover 1951–52 funds, and new incorporated areas.
