Berlin reports Russian forces are smashing at the spearheads of the Nazi drive on Moscow while German panzer units hold positions. Spokesmen claim fierce eastern attacks near Smolensk and along the Dnieper beyond Mogilev, with entrapment of Red forces expected as Germany presses toward victory.
The U S Office drive aims to raise six thousand dollars for half of recreation centers to support defense training camps. Rev Floyd E Logee leads as permanent chairman with General Kelly and Drive Chairman Venable backing the effort. Local groups like Ancient Order of Kernians and Knights of Columbus join solicitors, and more volunteers are sought in Butte.
Senate non interventionists led by Sen. Wheeler push an amendment to extend service of selectees National Guardsmen and Reservists with a ban on deploying them outside the Western Hemisphere. Marvin L. Linder a 36 year old Chicago telephone and telegraph company representative was injured when his car collided with a north bound Greyhound bus on the Butte Helena highway near Elk Park. He suffered a severe head injury and was unconscious most of the time. The bus driver George E. Todd steered to the highway edge to avoid the crash.
Montana officials urged state county and city peace officers to form a coordinated network to combat liquor store robberies. J. S. President Roosevelt issued an executive order freezing Japanese assets in the United States and, at Chiang Kai shek's request, extending this control to Chinese assets. The measures curb trade and financial transactions with Japan and China to protect national defense and American interests.

Mrs Olga Luoma 56 died at St James hospital from injuries in an auto bus collision Wednesday evening. The crash at Centennial avenue and U S Highway 10 involved a car driven by William Lake and a bus driven by Ervins Garding of Anaconda. An inquest may be held Monday. She was a Finland native with 35 years in the mining city and leaves a daughter and a sister. Her body remains at Sherman Reed funeral home.
Mexico deported General Roberto Hurtado a Nicaraguan exile and handed him to U S authorities in Laredo Texas. Hurtado, a Nazi party member, asked German Minister Rudi von Collenberg for planes to back a coup in Nicaragua. The expulsion cites activities contrary to Mexico's international policy.
Sheriff's officers reported the unidentified man found along a highway two miles west of Superior died from a gunshot wound to the head. He appeared to be between 60 and 65 years old.
