Germany warns the United States through Walther Funk that after victory Europe will trade on Nazi terms or face a continental commerce lockout. The minister’s 45 minute interview conveyed a drastic economic ultimatum amid wartime tension.
President Roosevelt issues an order to curb exports of oil petroleum products and scrap metals to foreign lands. The move targets Japan Germany and Italy and could affect Great Britain via Canada. The action acts as an embargo through a licensing system and follows ships halted from leaving American ports for outside the western hemisphere.
Dave Fitzgerald of Livingston, a left handed lawyer, shot 68 then 71 for a 36 hole total of 139 to win medalist honors in the Montana state tournament at the Butte Country club. He edged Butte rivals George Sarsfield and Eugene Jones by one stroke while Bob Owen of Oklahoma led the morning with a 67 before finishing 143.

Bobbitt and Homer E. Capehart to finalize plans.
Havana July 25 Leopoldo Melo head Argentine delegate said his country opposed Pan American trusteeships or mandates over European possessions in the hemisphere. He urged future status be determined by the people involved without outside pressure.

William Fagan the owner and a customer Tony Bertoglio were present. The robber fired a blank shot at Fagan who stood under four feet away as he told them to Buck up.
A Montana forecast calls for generally fair conditions Friday and Saturday. Temperatures rise slowly on Friday with further warming east of the divide on Saturday.
Louis Johnson resigns as assistant secretary of war and President Roosevelt nominates Robert Porter Patterson of New York to succeed him. Patterson has served on the second circuit court of appeals since 1939. Johnson is expected to become administrative assistant to the President and progress reporter on the defense program.
In Washington the Senate and House military committees push a broad compulsory training plan. Senator Vandenberg warns against rushing into conscription while Senator Wheeler calls the bill part of hysteria and warns Democrats against backing it before elections. Senator Reynolds signals cautious support for some conscription as a fallback.
County canvassing board completed an official check of the recent primary votes in Silver Bow. They reported 20 695 ballots cast from 25 975 registered, an 80 percent turnout, with no changes to close races including the Democratic Legislature contest where Henry F. Mernin led Denis McCarthy 3680 to 3642.
