City adapts preliminary budget with rise in costs

Four men aboard the 19 ton German seaplane Nordmeer were hurled into the air at 95 miles an hour from a standing start near Port Washington. Capt. Joachim von Blankenburg and a three man crew rode the catapulted craft built to explore an air route between Germany and the United States. The Nordmeer aimed for Horta in the Azores, 2397 miles away, with a 15 hour flight time. The launch followed Nordmeer's sister ship Nordwind’s arrival from Horta and preceded Nordwind’s return, as well as Mercury’s Montreal to Southampton run.
