Fire and violence devastate Malaga as monarchist and fascist groups attack districts. Buildings burn. numerous clubs and homes are destroyed amid widespread unrest and casualties. Authorities dispatch units to quell the violence and restore order.

Two Persons Still Held in Connection With Mystery Murder of Co Ed. ASHEVILLE, N C JULY 25 Sheriff Laurence E Brown announced tonight he had released Prof W L Clevenger uncle of Helen Cleven Ger slain in her hotel room here but that the 54 year old bachelor chose to remain in jail. The sheriff told newspaper men Professor Clevenger was released by me this afternoon but he is voluntarily remaining in jail to co operate with us in solving the murder of his niece. That's rather unusual isnt it The sheriff was asked. You mean to say Professor Clevenger is of more value to you in the jail than in the city He IT did not say that the sheriff retorted. The sheriff admitted newspaper men to his office about 30 minutes after Superior Court Judge F Don ald Phillips of Rockingham announced receipt of a message from Brown saying Professor Clevenger had been released. Writ issued. Judge Phillips disclosed he had signed a writ of habeas corpus for the professors release and made it returnable at 6 30 p m The jurist added he sent Sheriff Brown a message stating that unless Clevenger were given his freedom by that time the habeas corpus hearing would be held. Clevenger daily specialist at N C State College was taken into custody at 3 p m yesterday on his return from Ohio where he attended the funeral of his 18 year old niece. He was the seventh person to be detained in the investigation of the murder of the blonde young honor student found shot and stabbed in Continued on Page 2 Col 3

Five Stevensville Scouts and their scoutmaster Ted Carlson conquered a forest fire on Welcome creek in western Montana after a July 22 lightning strike. Ranger Carl Siria of the Lolo National Forest reported the swift actions of the boys from Three Mile district saved the area until regular firefighters arrived.
At Old Faithful Montana Bankers’ association ends its annual convention by forming a permanent research committee to collect data for exchange among members and to align with the national unit. The panel also will report on employee group insurance and Montana social security legislation next summer. Speaker Phil C. Hanna warned of a horse trade between John L. More than 8 400 applications had been filed by western employees, reaching 73 percent with east and other localities approaching full participation. Next week the company will resume distribution and issuance of individual certificates.
Montana voters expressed a preference to retain district judges on a no party ballot. In the fifth district Rogers and Bennett led, with Rogers at 1,590 and Bennett at 1,585. Several districts had unopposed or multiple nominees with totals listed, awaiting official canvass.
Official Ravalli county totals raise Ray Shannon’s margin over Paul Smith to 106 votes in the Democratic nomination for state treasurer. Shannon’s revised county and state tallies reach 23,264 and 23,158 respectively after a correction adding 110 to Shannon and seven to Smith. Horace Casey leads Pilgeram for railroad and public service commissioner with 23,196 to 22,313.
A naval reserve aviation mechanic, Samuel H. Gladstone, was killed when a plane he rode in to dodge a bird jolted and threw him from the aircraft at about 1,000 feet over the Atlantic. The incident occurred in the U S Navy third district area and prompted official review.
D H Elton of Lethbridge Alberta king's counselor will be principal speaker at the Montana Bar association golden jubilee convention in Bozeman on August 14 and 15 John Bonner state president announced Elton is mayor of Lethbridge.

Traceable to four deaths in Tracy California the cans are nine ounces marked H 35 4 and shipments were sold before notification. Dr Williams and Dr Eminger alerted Butte merchants and notified the Montana state board of health.
Enthusiasts from six counties in the South Central District Sportsmen’s association gather at Echo Lake for a full day of trap shooting, flycasting, bait casting, swimming, diving, and motor boat races. The event precedes the Montana State Championship Regatta at Georgetown Lake later this month with patrols to ease traffic.

Paul Bianchi age 18 and Tony Bianchi age 20 drowned in a 15 foot hole in the Jefferson River near Renova Pleasant Valley. Deputy Dan Quinn and a search party recovered one body at 4 30 and the other at 6. Pete Patiini fishing with the group alerted parents after failing to locate the youths. Nearly 100 ranchers from Pleasant Valley Renova and White Hall helped scour the river. Clothes were found on the bank as evidence of the accident which occurred about 2 30 PM.
George Sarsfield of Butte will face C Ward Hill of Bozeman in the championship flight at the Butte Country Club today, seeking the state golf tournament title.

John Holland, clerk and recorder, released the unofficial tally showing the highest write-in vote getters on the Republican ticket from last Tuesday. After official notification, the nominees have 10 days to qualify for the general election by filing fees equal to 1 percent of the yearly salary. The ballot listed 11 qualified candidates for four offices, while over 200 write-ins were cast.
