Veteran Admits Slaying Wife in Colorado Mountains
David A. Downey a 29 year old San Francisco native and former Air Forces lieutenant confessed to police that he strangled his 24 year old wife Lolly in the Rampart mountains Colorado. Trapped Miners Count Rises After Old Ben Blast
In West Frankfort Illinois on July 24 1936 ten more bodies were found in the Old Ben No 8 mine bringing the death toll to eleven. Two miners died two were fatally injured and a score or more remained trapped as rescue teams battled flames in the 500 foot shaft. Survivors aided in the rescue and at least twenty men were near the blast area when it happened. No cause was released.

Seaman Held in Slaying of Navy Wife at Tall Timbers
