County health office budget tight as 1968 funds fall short
The City of Butte and Silver Bow County planned a City-County Board of Health with Dr. Robert W. Thomett as chair and Dr. Robert W. Schultz as director. The 1968 69 budget was 60 260 dollars, equal to revenues but about 4 000 short of operating costs. Schultz’s June salary was charged to 1969 70 revenue, and no reserve exists beyond 2 558 dollars over committed. State support may reach 2 247 dollars. Budget projections show levies unlikely to fund current operations, and commissioners consider eliminating Schultz’s 19 200 salary, effectively dismissing him if carried into August. Kennedy loses license after Chap Chappaquiddick crash
The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles preliminarily faults Senator Edward M. Kennedy and suspends his driving license following the Chap paquiddick Island accident. Five women at the party learned of the crash the next morning, after Joseph Gargan told them as he drove them to the ferry. The crash left Mary Jo Kopechne dead and Kennedy with a mild concussion and neck strain.

Brucellosis hits State in first Montana outbreak
Seventeen Glacier County cattle herds were quarantined in Montana’s first brucellosis outbreak in years. Dr. John Safford of the State Livestock Sanitary Board said action targets Blackfoot Reservation herds and warned that curbing the disease could lead to strict export controls statewide starting January 1. The outbreak, near epidemic, has spread to four other counties with several infected herds in Pondora Richland Sheridan Missoula and Cascade counties.

Newly Wed Butte Woman Killed in One Car Crash
A 21 year old Butte woman, Karen Springer Gollinger, was killed in a one car wreck on Harrison Avenue about 12:30 Wednesday morning. Three other young women were injured. The incident raises Montana highway deaths to 175 for 1969. Coroner Leo Jacobsen cited a skull fracture as the cause. The other passengers Colleen Sheehan 20 Katherine Fitzpatrick 22 and Cheryl Benson 19 survived in satisfactory condition. Gollinger and her husband John Gollinger, Navy member, married Saturday. She had worked 15 months for Mountain States Telephone Co in Butte. Survived by Alvin and Mrs Springer Deer Lodge and Timothy.
