The City of Butte adopts a preliminary budget of 1 766 560 for 1965 66 with a 51 50 mill levy 4 25 more than 1964 65. The extra millage funds a 130 000 10 year fire dept equipment bond and other needs including a fire station remodel a 7 mill parks fund a 1 mill judgment fund and a mill to cover bond costs.
Hosea Williams of the SCLC warned that if Congress does not pass the federal voting rights bill by August 1, demonstrations could erupt in 70 counties across six Southern states. He cited ongoing beatings, arrests, and intimidation of Black people as the reason for urgent action.
In Saigon, U S and South Vietnamese police hunted a former colleague of Jack E Ryan after Ryan, head of the U S aid mission police advisory unit, and a Vietnamese woman were shot died. The suspect, a close friend of the woman, acted from personal revenge as authorities investigate the slaying and dragnet spans several states in the U S.

An 18 year old New Jersey man, Stephen Peters Gregory, was killed Friday south of Big Sandy when he fell from a tractor and was run over. He died shortly after in Havre hospital. He was a native of Beacon, New Jersey, and is survived by his parents.
MISSOULA UPI The Forest Service will open bids August 17 for construction of the Anaconda Job Corps Conservation Camp 11 miles west of Anaconda in the Deerlodge National Forest. The 20 youth facility will be completed 126 days after construction begins and includes four 50 man barracks a 200 man mess hall and multiple support buildings. A similar camp near Darby is under construction under the antipoverty program.
