The Badger mine employing 240 men is closed and Butte Hill operations of Anaconda Co. may suspend by Tuesday night due to a strike by Teamsters Local No. 2. About 3,400 could be idled in Butte and Anaconda as 155 workers join the action and pickets line the BA&P trains.
A two-part report details a Marseille-Paris express wreck near Velais-sur-Ouche France killing 36 and injuring 48 as six cars left the rails. Separately in Honolulu Canada Pacific Empress of Lima crash killed 27 of 40 aboard with 13 in the tail section surviving.
Metal trades unions in Butte Anaconda and Great Falls voted against a July 16 settlement with the company with 16 to 12 opposed. Anaconda 9 against 4 for the agreement Butte 2 against 4 for the agreement Great Falls 3 against 4 for the agreement. The pact would raise wages 2 percent per hour retroactive to April 1 1962 and 5 cents per hour from July 1 1963, expiring July 1 1964.
Striking physicians reach a compromise with Premier Lloyd and Dr H D Dalgleish to amend Saskatchewan medicare. Government allows private insurers to co administer the plan while doctors reserve right to practice outside the act if amended. Negotiations followed five days of talks after a 23 day walkout.
Negotiations between Mine-Mill and the Anaconda Co resume at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning in the Anaconda Employees Club. Talks had recessed Thursday after bargaining since June 6 with intermittent breaks.
Police detained two young men aged 20 and 21 for investigation of damage to city parking meters. Chief James Clark reported about $2,500 in meter damage over two weeks, with less than $30 in coins removed. Officers Earl Holman and Del LeBreche led the inquiry.
A scheduled strike at Kennecott Copper’s western division was averted when a new two year contract was reached with the International Union of Mine Mill and Smelter Workers. The deal comes minutes before about 5,000 workers in Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada would have walked off. Union officials hailed the pact as a good one and slated local votes in four states to ratify the agreement.
Montana Highway Patrol Board canceled a Monday hearing after suspended patrolman Paul Barick of Butte resigned effective July 20. Supervisor Alex Stephenson said Barick was suspended for conduct unbecoming a patrolman and had been stationed in Livingston and Butte.
Indonesian President Sukarno declares Indonesia will gain control of Dutch New Guinea West Irian on January 1 1963. The demand was presented during discussions with Western allies and Indonesian officials.

The School District No. 1 elementary budget of 1 982 647 81 was approved by county commissioners as a board of supervisors. Approval of the 897 100 30 high school budget was withheld pending an attorney general opinion on a 15 416 67 extracurricular item. H J Tobie Johnson questioned athletics expenditures while science fair travel and band uniforms were not challenged. Johnson and Elizabeth Gerry represented the county board. Gene Daly was absent. Others present included Douglas Harnish and Maybelle Hogan.
Richard Lee Hageman, 25, of Bozeman died in a hospital after a car truck crash on U S Highway 10 west of Belgrade. The collision involved Lawrence Townsend, 25, of Bozeman, and Marvin Holdiman, of Belgrade. Townsend and Holdiman were uninjured. This death marks Montana's 115th traffic fatality of the year.
A B47 jet bomber apparently exploded and crashed 27 miles south of Livingston in Emigrant Pass before 10 p.m. Monday. Ground crews were dispatched by the sheriff, with base officials from Malmstrom confirming the Dyess Air Force Base origin. Fifteen men left Livingston for the crash scene as firefighting crews prepared for a forest fire set by the crash. No immediate figure on crew size.
Helena UPI reports the Montana State Hail Insurance Board says nine counties Phillips Valley Fergus Blaine Dawson Powder River Fallon McCone and Judith suffered near total crop losses from hail. Board chair E K Bowman warned losses may top previous records with no exact dollar figures available.
Sen. Henry Dworshak, Republican of Idaho, died at his home from an apparent heart attack. He collapsed at 8:30 p.m. EDT and was pronounced dead at Georgetown Hospital. Dworshak, a longtime conservative advocate for western interests, was the fourth senator to die in this session. He had served in the House since 1939 and in the Senate since 1946, with reelections in 1950 1954 and 1960.
Congress approved a 4.69 million dollar subsidy appropriation for lead and zinc payments this year, 190 thousand below the President’s request. The action was finalized in Washington with UPI reporting.
Funeral services for Oliver Wendle Moon 34 Anaconda chemist killed in a Sunday night one car crash on the Mill Creek Big Hole Basin highway ten miles southwest of Anaconda will be held at St Mark Episcopal Church at 1 p m Thursday. Two other Anaconda residents in Moen s car were injured Aldo DiRe 32 of 1105 W Fourth Anaconda police officer remains in St Ann Hospital with back injuries a crushed lower back vertebrae and extensive bruises and contusions.
The bulletin reports fair conditions in Butte through Wednesday with afternoon or evening thundershowers possible and highs near 85. East of Divide expects fair weather Tuesday to Wednesday with scattered storms and highs around 80 to 90. West of Divide shows fair Tuesday with increasing storms by Wednesday, cooler by midweek, highs 85 to 95 and Tuesday night lows 45 to 55.
