A raid at the Rocky Mountain cafe in Meadorville led by Constables Butch Lester and Eddie McCarthy seized four alleged gambling tables. Several suspects evacuated the premises and the crowd dispersed within minutes as the raid began.
Hollywood police detained Clarence Lenhart after he claimed to be recruited to kidnap Douglas Fairbanks Jr. and wife Joan Crawford. Lenhart said five men from Texas approached him, saying it would be easy to seize stars from studios. He visited Fairbanks, who alerted authorities.
Richard Whittle a 40 year old former supervising architect for the Missouri Pacific railroad drank heavily after a quarrel then bought whisky, returned home and shot at his wife Pauline Whittle in the bathroom. The gun jammed on the second attempt and neighbors restrained him. Mrs. Whittle was hospitalized in serious condition and Whittle jailed.
