Anaconda hosts the Montana State Golf Association thirteenth annual tournament with 234 players from 16 cities, as women start qualifying for the state amateur. The event features junior and senior championships, Mantel Wilson trophy match, and putting contests on the clock green.
The St. Louis Robin 850 pilots Dale Jackson and Forest O Brine broke the world sustained flight record for the fifth time in seven months with a flight surpassing 246 hours and approaching 300 hours as crowds celebrated in New York and St Louis. The Curtiss company offered compensation to the pilots for each hour aloft.
John F. Sinclair reports on a pair of local enterprises forming a joint venture to back a new city league and its proposed palace. The article notes the involvement of a railroad company selecting Bolivia as a partner in the project.

Hollywood reports that Clara Bow may retire after marrying Harry Richman, a wealthy club owner. Richman said Bow has a year and a half left on her Paramount contract and may choose retirement after marriage. The couple planned a Sept. 12 Europe voyage aboard the Bremen and a September honeymoon, with wedding timing uncertain due to work on films.
The committee aims to raise 2150 to complete drainage and paving on a street. Fred Gamer, chairman, said a report will be issued soon and pledged donations from residents out of town are expected to arrive. Of 9300 licensed drivers in Butte, about 800 contributed so far, implying many owners have not yet subscribed.
Attorney General C A Sorensen ordered the prosecution of four alleged leaders of a mob that drove all Negroes from North Platte after the murder of a police officer. Names not released. The governor later ordered Negroes to return and promised protection.
The state calls 35 witnesses for the murder trial of former Ohio State veterinary professor Dr James H Snook. Prosecutor John Chester seeks a two day jury. Defense insists on emotional insanity in self defense. Snook, held in jail, spoke with lawyers and enjoyed a magazine.
Four men robbed the Great Northern station in Helena Montana at 6 15 pm taking all money from the safe and cash drawer after beating traveling salesman and station agent Elmer Rink. Police pursue a cash sedan with Washington plate 185053. a fourth gang member waited in the car.
A National Parks Airways plane on the Salt Lake City to Great Falls route dropped a beef steak to the Charles Cannon ranch near the Idaho Montana border. Pilot Frank Nelson, passenger George Elrod, and Ernest Stiles witnessed the parachute delivery marking airmail innovation. Charles Cannon, once a aviator, now a stockman nearby.
The city council accepted Western Electric’s bid to light the St. James hospital district for 10 212 and rejected all bids for paving East Platinum street. The next meeting will re advertise bids for East Platinum street paving and hear protests on lighting West Park street. A whirlwind toppled a concrete hoisting tower at Cascade Milling Elevator, 25 miles southeast of Great Falls. Cary Campbell, 41, a carpenter, was hurled from the 48 foot tower and died a few hours later. George Cloyes, another carpenter, suffered a broken leg. Both men were from Sne.
Montana state banks report near prior, solid condition at June 30 loan call. Loans to customers rise by 1,806,355 since March while banks' own borrowings increase only 820,000, signaling sustained banking strength amid wool and wheat market factors.
The Quhohl trustees call a special meeting Friday at noon to review coal bids from five firms for the district’s schools. Bids include Pioneer Fuel Montana Transfer Western Fuel J Ambrosetti Builders Brick & Fuel. The district spent about $20 000 on fuel last year.
The Butte Miners Field Day committee approves 3000 toy balloons for children and 2000 souvenir fans for women spectators for Monday’s program at Columbia Gardens. They print 10000 programs and prepare 1500 gallons of lemonade by Harry Goodsell.cont.
