Lewistown Girl Dies After Motorcycle Crash
Carol Spaulding, 15, of Lewistown, died en route to a Great Falls hospital after a motorcycle crash Wednesday. She was a passenger with John Wagner when the vehicle rammed a street barricade and slid on oil laid by city crews. Her injuries included a concussion and skull fracture. The death lifted Montana’s traffic toll to 150, up from 142 a year ago.

Butte man drowns on Idaho vacation in river
Walter Baldassin 42 of Butte drowned in the Middle Fork of the Clearwater River 22 miles east of Kooskia Idaho. His wife Anna and son Steve 10 were with him when he stepped into a deep hole. A motorist who helped rescue Anna could not locate Walter. Baldassin worked as a Texaco district sales representative in Southwestern Montana. He and family had lived in Butte about two years after moving from Tacoma.
