San Saba Texas reports two drownings as the river rose from two to three feet to 42 feet. The state held 2,727,905 in the unemployment trust fund. 34,768 names were in active files and 12,071 old-age recipients were paid 245,486 in April, averaging 2033. Blaze Rages In California Wood Fire
Yreka California July 22 Fire on a 12 mile front in the Red Cap area of the Klamath National forest had burned over 4000 acres and was out of control. More than 900 veteran fire fighters from logging camps of southern Oregon and the coast were building a 12 mile back fire on the blaze east boundary. A cargo plane joined three other aircraft to drop four tons of food daily to the fire lines.
