Violent quake near Tehachapi California destroyed much of the town of 2500. Eleven residents died including nine children. scores injured as the magnitude 7.5 temblor triggered widespread damage across a 700 mile span from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles. Downtown Los Angeles swayed and power outages sprawled through the region as rails and highways were disrupted.
