Plaque Honoring War Veterans Stolen in Park
A bronze memorial plaque dedicated to war veterans was reported stolen by Kay Dalling, leader of the Rocky Mountain Council of Garden Clubs. Pilot Dies in Spray Plane Crash Over Montana Forest
MISSOULA AP A World War II TBM spray plane operated by Johnson Flying Service crashed Monday after a spraying pass near Lost Trail Pass on the Montana side of the Continental Divide killing pilot Hardy Landing 43 of Fort Benton. A helicopter and smokejumpers reached the scene and confirmed Landing dead. Sandvig, a longtime seasonal pilot, was nearby at Salmon Idaho airport when the radio message was received.

Mystifying flying objects were seen over Butte late Monday night. A witness said a land near the airport about 11:30 p.m. A man and six children described a rocket flame trailing a flaming ball for a minute heading northwest. Another observer saw a satellite crossing the eastern sky then looping southeast. Airport observers offered no explanation, suggesting stars or standard aircraft.
