A 32 count federal indictment charges five University of Montana officials including Athletic Director Swarthout and George Mitchell with conspiring to misuse federal student aid and coach-linked funds. Murder charges filed against two in railroad deaths
Four felony charges were filed in Silver Bow County District Court against Steven Lean 22 and Allen Fetters 23 in connection with the March 28 runaway Anaconda Co switch engine and the death of Jack Weist 58 a brakeman with the Butte Anaconda and Pacific Railway. Lean and Fetters face murder and rail property interference counts with crew death and related destruction charges. The engine departed from the concentrator yards in East Butte and ran uncontrolled about six miles. They are free on 15000 bonds and will be arraigned next week.
