Francis Cooney 32 son of Governor Frank H. Cooney died after a collision on the Bitter Root highway seven miles south of Lolo. He died at 10 45 p m at Missoula hospital after severe head injuries. Mr and Mrs Miles Romney Jr were treated in Hamilton for cuts and bruises. The two cars’ forward ends telescoped in the noonish crash.

San Francisco July 19 The mass strike of city union labor was called off as public opinion eroded its support. The steering committee that led the walkout voted 191 to 174 to end the strike and urged unions to resume work.
Washington July 19 officials announced a negotiated settlement restoring the Blue Eagle to Harriman Hosiery Mills in Tennessee amid NRA turmoil. The deal likely leads to reopening of the plant and the return of more than 600 workers formerly laid off after the plant closed following the eagle removal.
Butte district No. 1 trustees awarded the 1934 35 coal supply and light globe contracts after drawing names from paper slips. Facing 17 identical coal bids and six duplicate light globe bids, the board conducted a random selection in the administration building last night, choosing five local firms to supply the district for the coming year.
