Firemen in Milwaukee race into a heat tunnel at North Fifth Street and McKinley Avenue where 13 workers were trapped by a sudden rain flood. Some survived in compressed air compartments and knocked for help as water surged into the tunnel. Rescue crews lowered a hoist to the base. the scene continues as details unfold.
A raging oil well at Mount Pleasant, Michigan, exploded during a crowding at a major statewide strike, killing seven including five women and injuring others. Flaming oil sprayed spectators after a cigarette drop blamed for the disaster. victims include Mrs. Walter G. McLanahan, Mrs. E. J. Guy, Ruby Melvin, Arwin E. Gorham, Marion Fugate, Mrs. Thomas Lamb, and John Melvin.
After a nine month hunt across western states the Harrison bank robbery suspect Walter Varnes 37 was arrested in Spokane. He used the name Stanford but admitted his identity after a wanted circular. Extradition waived Madison county Undersheriff Westbrook to take charge.
The Associated Press reports that German and French ministers agreed on principles for financial relief to the Reich after Paris conferences and will resume talks in London. J Good win Hall, a New York broker flyer who yesterday cut all time records New York to Havana by landing at Roosevelt Field in 8 hours 35 minutes, plans to fly back to New York tomorrow hoping to shave at least 30 minutes. He will depart Havana at 7 am for Miami then nonstop to New York. He denies aiming to rival Captain Hawks and says his efforts serve intercity records for an anti prohibition crusade.
Forty more Girl Scouts join the third contingent for Camp Castle Rock, bringing total attendees to a record 66 with 26 staying from last week. Girls come from Dillon Whitehall and Butte. buses depart 8:30 to 9 from the school administration building. Mrs. Frank Venable chairs the camp committee as Mrs. Nellie Small acts as camp mother. Activities include gypsy trails nature hikes swimming archery outdoor meals camp fire and crafts. Continued on page 2 column 2.

He spoke of unnamed assailants of his hour of tribulation and urged them not to judge what they do not know. Albert B. Fall former secretary of the interior rests at his Tres Ritos ranch near Three Rivers New Mexico after a 125 mile car trip from El Paso Texas to begin a year and day sentence for accepting a bribe. He is accompanied by his physician Dr J H Gambrell and his wife and granddaughter Martha Fall.
In Loanda Portuguese West Africa today during high mass at the Church of Nossa Senhora de Carmo a choir gallery collapsed injuring about 200 people, with around 20 expected to die. About eighty worshippers were hospitalized.
Parsons Kan July 19 Fred O Campbell 36 of Coffeyville and James McCoy 20 a nearby farmer were killed when Campbell's plane crashed from 300 feet after takeoff at Parsons airport.
George Wallace a dahlia grower from Jamestown celebrated his 25th birthday by leaping from the wing of a hired airplane over Lake View Cemetery. Pilot Lee Clark recounted the sudden move after Wallace walked along the wing at about 1,200 feet before jumping. Wallace, son of Frank Wallace, ran a dahlia farm with his brother. the father could not explain the motive for the tragedy.
At Lakeshore Country Club in Butte Rotana women wrapped up their two day national convention with golf a sight seeing trip and a garden luncheon hosted by Mrs Etta Bessette. About 40 Rotanans attended the garden tea featuring child dancers from Bishop school. Delegates planned to meet again in Helena in 1932.
Tributes honored Marcus Daly at the Marcus Daly Memorial hospital dedication in Hamilton. James W. Gerard, son‑in‑law to Mrs. Daly, presented the hospital on behalf of Mrs. Daly and family, praising Daly as a Montana pioneer who backed the state's development.
In Luray Virginia on July 19 President Hoover enjoyed complete relaxation at his mountain camp after reading favorable European news. He spoke by telephone with Acting Secretary Castle about the German economic situation. Satisfied, he decided to return to Washington, leaving early tomorrow morning as most guests departed today.
Butte endured another warm day with an unofficial high of 94, official 87. Hundreds of locals pursued Sunday leisure in hammocks or on sunlit tennis courts while motorists crowded highways to mountain picnic spots and fishing holes. The low reached 44 as the day began, per the National Parks Airways weather bureau.
At Akron Municipal Airport five balloons battled bad weather in a national elimination race for the P. W. Litchfield trophy. A driving rain and heavy thunderstorms forced crews to seek safer air as Army No. 2 carried a heavy load and descended near Sandy Lake after difficulties. Remaining balloons headed northeast while a 50,000-strong crowd watched as the last craft cleared the field before sunset.
