The second July heat wave spreads from the eastern U.S. to intensify the death toll. Eight deaths attributed directly to heat and 11 drownings are reported as temperatures push toward 100 in Nebraska and 90s in Chicago and St Louis. Forecasters predict more extreme heat before a possible cooldown.
New York July 19. U P Seven men were arrested and four radio stations seized in Long Island as part of a campaign against radio stations accused of directing a rum fleet along the Atlantic coast. Officials say 90 such stations may exist. The raid involved 25 to 50 agents and was described as the start of a nationwide effort by radio inspectors, the justice department, and treasury agents to stamp out the rings. R A M Bachellar said there may be more than 90 Whit radio sets guiding rum ships into safe harbors. The raids followed a prior seizure off New Jersey and involved readings from Southampton, Hampton Bays, and Mattituck.
Dalhart Texas July 19 A gun battle near here left Sheriff George W Alexander of Dallas county and Lon Gillinger dead during an attempted arrest. Ode
Oscar Woetzold proprietor of a Meusewitz area foundry killed himself by leaping into a cauldron of molten iron amid industrial reverses and credit losses. Gillinger was likely fatally wounded. incident occurred at the Gillinger home five miles south of the town as Sheriff Alexander and deputies served felony warrants.
Blue Larkspur the 1929 three year old champion captured the Arlington Cup at Arlington Park Chicago by three lengths. Petee Wrack finished second and Toro third in the $25,000 race held July 19.

Chicago July 19 Thomas Abbott, long hunted as Lingle killer, was captured after a ten mile chase through North Clark street. Hundreds cheered as police fired shots. a gun was found in Abbott’s car. He denied involvement in Lingle’s murder or Zuta attack.
Jalmer Seline 46 a miner was found dead by a maid in his room at 336 East Granite Street. A Finnish note addressed to a friend was found on a dresser. Coroner Salot to hold an inquest. Seline born in Finland came to the United States years ago. He is survived by a brother in the U.S. and his mother in Finland. The body lies in Sherman & Reed’s chapel awaiting funeral plans.
Ward Braley, 18, a plane designer, was fatally injured last night when he fell 100 feet from a glider he built at a field east of Wichita. He died in a hospital shortly after the accident.
Joseph Londergran, 30, of St. Joseph Missouri, was killed when his plane crashed during the field dedication in Creston Iowa. The accident occurred as the new airport was being dedicated.
The United States defeated Italy in the Davis Cup inter zone final in Paris and earned the challenge round where France will defend the trophy in tennis history.
The board of county commissioners let a $48 571 23 contract to L T Lawler for six and a half miles of back Nine Mile road. Work will begin within 15 days and must be finished by October 21. The project adds guard rails three bridges and full drainage, plus a safer approach near the Nine Mile house.
Washington reports a robust road program with an estimated $80 per registered motor car allocated for highway construction this year. A Hoover committee forecast places road building at a record $1.75 billion, up over $250 million from 1929, to counteract business depression and boost activity.
Yellowstone National Park reports record tourist activity with 4,758 visitors on July 4, the highest daily travel in park history. Through July 15 total visitors reached 88,079, with July’s average daily travel near 3,000, slightly above last year.
SALT LAKE CITY July 19 UP A strong link in a forgery chain extending from San Francisco to Chicago was broken today with the arrest of six men charged with passing spurious travelers checks.
One of two banner events of the year for Butte's crippled children the annual picnic made happy 61 youngsters Saturday afternoon. The children met at St James hospital and were taken to Basin Creek picnic grounds.
In Bucharest Romania on July 19 King Carol and Queen Helen attended a requiem for King Ferdinand at Curtea de Arges. They appeared publicly together for the first time since Carol’s return, and a cabinet meeting was convened to draft a formula annulling Helen's divorce.
F. L. Sorenson of Helena was chosen as state president of the Montana Eagles. The association approved resolutions urging congressional action to adopt national old age and mothers' pension plans. Other officers named include James J. Brett.
John McConochie, elderly sheepman of the Pease bottom country in Treasure county, was instantly killed in a crossing accident yesterday morning. His automobile was struck by a passenger train near Custer, about 60 miles east of here, as he appeared to watch a switch engine. The car was dragged several hundred yards. a large family survives.
Madison county reports incomplete results with eight votes added to Leonard Young over Ethel Marcum Bielenberg for the Republican railroad commissioner nomination. With 18 precincts still missing, Young totals 12,938 and Bielenberg 12,906.
A Whoopee speedboat carrying six youths and a pilot crashed midship into the 14ton yacht Scarab off Rogers Park Beach Lake Michigan. Miss Betty Ayers 18 was killed. four men aboard the Scarab and the rest of the party reached shore safely. Benjamin Marshall Jr. 21 was severely injured.
