Gordon Holfenbach aged 13 of 717 Colorado was bitten on the right leg by a dog late Sunday afternoon at the corner of Platinum and Main streets. He was taken to St. James hospital by Officers John O Mara and John Lyden and released after emergency treatment.
Helena July 18. Gov. Ford urged all Montana citizens to vote in the primary elections Tuesday. He warned that in other lands where franchise is denied, people will watch Montana to see how they exercise this basic citizenship right. He urged all registered voters to go to the polls and vote.
Gov. Sam C. Ford, Montana Republican candidate, touts his irrigation, reclamation, and industrial programs in a state wide radio address. He claims opponents all back similar policies but offers no details on how they would achieve them. Charles Davidson will speak for Ford on roads liquor system and the state’s general fund surplus as the campaign heads toward Tuesday’s primary.
Mrs. Alice Burch widow of John F Burch aged 80 longtime Deer Lodge resident died Sunday at home after five months illness. She left 13 of her 11 children at her bedside, 121 living descendants listed. Funeral at Presbyterian church Tuesday with six grandsons as pallbearers, burial in Hillcrest.
The United States Chamber of Commerce urged voluntary methods to curb inflation, opposing President Truman's call for consumer credit controls. It argued that government economic controls would hinder production and proposed four voluntary measures including wage restraint, monetary policy, reduced government spending, and promoting personal savings. The exchange between Treasury Secretary Snyder and Joseph M. Dodge highlighted ongoing support for voluntary lending controls to combat inflation.
In St Lo France on the fourth anniversary of liberation a hospital was dedicated to the United States 29th Division. French health minister Mme Germaine Floinse Chapuis hailed the Allied sacrifice noting many Americans died there and their blood remains on French soil as a symbol of hope shared by both nations.
A special group from the A. CO. M. Employes' club under Diamea Chatham entertained patients and staff at the state hospital on Sunday afternoon. The indoor program featured Esther Yarath, Pearl Littlejohn, Emil Hebert, June Mealey, the Four Konens, and Jahn Davies as master of ceremonies. An outdoor concert by the n piece club band led by Fete Malyevac and Tony Kolman followed on the hospital lawn. Separately, fire crews battled a minstress fire in a rooming house at 303 North Main Street, blamed on a careless smoker, with the blaze extinguished about 8:30 Sunday morning.
A man named John Birbas was arrested at police headquarters on charges of distributing liquor without a license. Officers Del Rodde and John O’Leary made the arrest at 11 o clock Sunday morning on Hust Park Street. Birbas posted a $100 appearance bond for release.
Butte attorney and Republican Senatorial candidate Tom Davis told a Sunday crowd that living costs are inflated by government spending. He claimed food costs rose 100 percent while government costs surged 877 percent, citing 4,000 bureaus and 443,000 federal offices. He urged reducing agencies and federal employees.
Cheyenne enforcement officers reported to Silver Bow county sheriff that a car stolen from a Mining Detty garage in Butte was recovered in Cheyenne Sunday afternoon. The car, owned by James King of 23 West Granite, was taken from a Butte storage garage about two weeks ago.
Berlin report says John J. Elme, deputy controller of the British control commission inland water transport at Hamburg, alleges he was prisoner four days on charges of being a spy. He says the Russians held him to demonstrate contempt.
In a news conference Bims says Russian forces arrested a British man Wednesday as he entered the German controlled zone by appointment to arrange feeding German crews on British controlled barges. Russian authorities say the man was handed over to authorities after entering the zone.
