Sixty people die and at least 100 are gravely injured when a passenger train crashes into a stopped train in fog at San Bernardo station. Officials fear toll may rise to 70 as engineers face arrest and President Ibanez orders rapid relief.
Peiping broadcast says Pan Han-Nien vice mayor of Shanghai and Hu Feng noted writer face arrest on counter revolutionary charges. The moves follow April purges of Kao Kang and Jao Shwu-Shih as party leaders warn against infiltrators in government and revolutionary systems.

Herbert H. Schaefer, 48, a Cut Bank businessman and rancher, died when his small plane crashed at Cut Bank airport during an electrical storm. In a late Sunday night auto accident near the Butte Helena Y three miles west of Three Forks one man identified as Jack Roberts about 50 formerly of Harrison now of Pullman Washington was reported killed. Fred Moger 65 Harrison escaped serious injury and said Roberts was driving the late model car. Moger could not explain the crash and Roberts was the only other occupant. Early Monday no official confirmation or full details were available.
In Dallas early Sunday Theo Alexander attempted to intervene in a bar fight between two women. He retrieved a pistol and fired into the ceiling, ending the fight but a ceiling fragment struck him, requiring stitches.
A Braniff Convair 340 from Dallas to Chicago hit a signboard on final approach in fog at Midway Airport. The craft crashed, 22 dead and 21 hurt among 43 aboard. Notable victims included Notre Dame football player Chester Wynn Jr. and Troy Lindsey of Midwest City, linked to the Chicago Cardinals contract talks.
