In Montana’s Tuesday primary heavy turnout delays clear outcomes. U S Senator John E. Erickson trails but gains as 258 of 1,387 precincts report with Murray leading O’Conner and Erickson in a tight senate short-term contest. Later returns show Erickson narrowing the gap.
In San Francisco rioting citizens smash communist hot spots and arrest 340 suspected agitators as a general strike moves toward arbitration. The waterfront walkout leaders push for recognition and a central arbitration plan while employers weigh the plan in a tense port city surge.
In Silver Bow county a large Democratic primary field and a closer Republican contest marked voting as 65 to 70 percent of registered voters cast ballots. Key races included short term senator, railroad commissioner, county clerk and recorder, assessor, and county commissioner with strong shows for Murray O Connor Erickson Donovan Lovelace Hamilton and Wheeler in the GOP race. Bourquin led the Republican tilt for railroad commissioner while O Connell and Stout vied for the nomination alongside Shelley and Rasmussen in strong showings. Callaway and Angstman gained solid renominations as Derry Morris led Democrats for the supreme court seats. Evans led the Republican bid for Congress with results ongoing.
Powell county results show Wheeler leading for democratic six year senate term and Bourquin ahead on republican ticket. Monaghan leads Evans for democratic congress. O Connell and Rankin ahead for short term. Final counts pending from Deer Lodge precincts, with twelve Powell precincts reporting.
Anaconda July 18 special report shows early primary totals up to 3 am with 8 of 17 precincts counted. U S Senator two year term results list Donovan Erickson Hamilton Dovvelace Murray and OConnor with vote tallies. U S Senator six year term results show Replogle leading among seven precincts with 55 votes.
President Roosevelt plans an informal talk on arrival August 5 at Glacier National Park. He will motor the Going to the Sun highway with stops at Lake McDonald Logan Pass and St Mary's Lake, stay at Two Medicine chalets, then depart by train from Glacier Park Station.
Sextuplets were born today to Mrs John Jordas in the village of Jontesti, Rumania. The mother and children were reported doing well. Medical historians note such a birth is exceedingly rare, with quintuplets having occurred only about 30 times in five centuries.

Washington July 17 NRA approval of lower lumber and timber product prices was called a cracking down by the recovery administration. A spokesman said the order nullifies the code authority price formula and signals greater government oversight of all prices, eroding industry self-government under the code.
Robert Connor, 21 months old, was found alive in a thicket behind his parents home in Hartsdale New York after five days missing. He was dehydrated and undernourished but in serious condition with scratches. doctors ordered nourishment by injection and feared pneumonia while transfusion was discussed. Investigators renewed efforts to locate kidnappers.
A Montana forecast calls for generally fair conditions on Wednesday and Thursday with cooler temperatures in the eastern portion on Wednesday.

In San Francisco on July 17 the government interpretation of section 7 A of the labor codes was discussed as it affects the closed shop. General Hugh S. Johnson spoke in Portland and reiterated the NRA stance. He said he was asked to clarify section 7 A.
Washington July 17 The Reconstruction Finance Corporation announced 5 year loans available to western mining companies that mine metals requiring smelting but exclude coal. Loans require adequate security based on mineral acreage and first mortgages on property, with NRA code compliance.
President Roosevelt resumes voyage aboard the U S S Houston after a quiet afternoon off Clipperton Island where rough seas prevented anchorage. Franklin Roosevelt Jr Captain Wilson Brown and Gus Gennerich joined a fishing attempt while the president ordered the Houston to continue toward Hawaii as the next stop.
