Butte Strikes Disable Rail and Air Transit

The nationwide railway machinists strike idled the Butte area as Union Pacific and Pacific Rail lines paused service since 6 a.m. Sunday. Anaconda Copper workers had already shut down the line. Butte Rodeo Draws 2000. Kane and Oliver Take Titles

Larry Kane from Big Sandy won the saddle bronc title with a two-ride score of 132 and $560 prize. Deane Oliver of Boise claimed the calf roping crown earning $1,000 with a 237.2 time for 10 calves. Barrel racing winners each collected $175. Attendance was about 2,000 at the Mining City rodeo.

Helena Youth Drowns In Canyon Ferry Reservoir

Mike Gadach 18, son of Mr and Mrs Stanley Gadach of Helena, drowned Sunday afternoon while swimming with two friends in a Canyon Ferry Cove.
