Boy Dies While Fishing With Father Near Whitehall
A five year old, John Edward Gallegos, drowned Friday while fishing with his father at Kountz Bridge on the Jefferson River five miles south of Whitehall. The boy, born in Big Timber, recently moved from Cus ter to Whitehall with his family. The father jumped into the river to try to save him but could not reach the body in five to six feet of swift water. A neighbor, Henry Palacini, aided the distressed father. Rescue efforts continued on Saturday with skindivers from Butte and Dillon. The Gallegos family includes Dennis, 4, and Connie, 3. The father is a North ern Pacific Railroad telegrapher based in Butte.

Engineering Work Starts On Butte Street Improvement
Engineering work is under way on a proposed 1 828 000 street and sewer improvement program in the Gilman Bellevue additions of the city. Neil Sullivan former city engineer formed Sullivan Engineering Co with headquarters at 1640 Grand Ave and has been awarded the contract. A 90 000 government grant for planning is pending repayment in part if the project is completed. The plan covers south of Interstate Highway to Holmes Avenue between Harrison and Oregon Avenues and areas west of Wynnie between Gilman and McKinney Avenues and west of Kennedy between McKinley and Holmes Avenues with one exception west of Dix on between Harrison and Oregon. The project includes concrete curbing sidewalks plant mix surfacing storm sewers and seeks further federal aid after planning. The final plan will include location surveys sub surface tests and will align with the city’s 1963 overall street improvement program Zone No 7. No improvement district has been created yet.
