A passenger train carrying about 300 vacationers slammed into a standing freight at Weeton England killing six and injuring 125. The crash collapsed the diesel engine cab and sent front coaches into a field as RAF from Weeton aided in rescues.
Mexican Bishop Jesus Clemente Alba Palacios of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec says some natives in the region practice cannibalism, a claim reported from Mexico City.
Clouds of smoke from a forest fire spread across the Crow Indian Reservation near Hardin as more than 2500 acres of virgin timber burned in the Black Canyon. About 309 workers, mostly Crow Indians with help from nearby ranches, battled the blaze in rugged canyon terrain as winds shifted and the fire threatened the Big Horn wilderness.
Bozeman Montana American Legion members chose Walter W. Barnard of Butte as state candidate for national vice commander West and set Butte as the 1962 convention site in Bozeman. Allen Saboe of Poplar will head the Montana department with Ralph Prather Frank Pherson James Schultz and William Wilson named vice commanders. The convention adjourned Sunday as resolutions opposing Cuba ties and federal aid to general education were adopted. Mrs. Henry Ahnemiller spoke to the group.
Tass reports in Kara-Uzyak village southern Kazakhstan a 120 year old woman Darya Bondareva remains in good health. The agency notes thirty residents in the region are aged 100 or older.
A theft in Saint Tropez saw paintings worth nearly 2 million dollars taken from the Annondade Museum of Modern Art including works by Matisse and Utrillo. Burglars used a stolen truck to access the museum, leaving 43 paintings and five sculptures possibly valued at an additional million. The theft may be linked to a single underground group, with prior losses totaling about 1.8 million.

Chicago police cleared Rainbow Beach on the South Side where about 10,000 gathered for a second weekend of organized integration demonstrations. Eleven white youths were arrested, one for kicking a policeman, as officers dispersed jeers from a crowd of over 500 whites amid 175 integration demonstrators.
Two men about 30 were surprised by Dr. V. J. Quinn in his office at Phoenix Ridge Sunday morning as they tried to pick the lock and enter. They fled down the stairs after being discovered.

Walter Bonatti reports four climbers perished in a severe Mt Blanc blizzard after a six day climb toward the central pillar. Italian climbers Andrea Oggioni and Robert Gallieni died first with French partner Antoine Vieille and Robert Guillaume dying later as they retreated to the Gamba refuge amid one of the region’s fiercest snowstorms in years.
