Senate Passes 7.5 Billion Omnibus With Rent Subsidy
The Senate approved a 7.5 billion omnibus spending bill after defeating Republican attempts to cut or kill the low income rent subsidy program. Passage was 54 to 30, sending the bill to conference with the House. The measure includes 350 million over four years for rent subsidies, 2.9 billion for urban renewal, and 240,000 additional public housing units. 24 Republicans and 16 Democrats backed the amendment to preserve subsidies. 42 Democrats and 5 Republicans opposed.

Truck Crash Kills Logger Near Bozeman
A loaded logging truck collided with a Milwaukee Road freight train seven miles southwest of Bozeman. The driver Dan Fry, about 23, died from massive injuries after logs crushed the cab and the truck burst into flames. The engineer R A Allen survived. highway logs blocked US-191 for hours while authorities considered an inquest. Fry had recently moved from Oregon to Bozeman.

Despite a weak steady signal the 1344 million mile journey took 8 hours 35 minutes per frame. Officials expected a second image within hours. Butte Girl Becomes First Job Corps Enrollee
Jessie Rader of 414 Shields, 20, daughter of Mr and Mrs Frederick Rader and member of a family of eight, leaves for Cleveland to work with the Office of Economic Opportunity Job Corps becoming Butte's first woman enrollee. The Montana Employment Service reports 31 applications from Butte youths. 20 accepted, two declined, with 18 already in the program in various centers. Screening is handled by the employment service.

Jack Leon Marry a 24 year old NP section worker from Missoula was killed walking in front of the Northern Pacific North Coast Limited at Garryson, Friday afternoon. Coroner Clayton Jewell said death from multiple injuries including skull fracture and internal damage. Train arrived on schedule at 3:28 PM. Deputies assisted in the investigation. Marry was born in Missoula March 25, 1941. The body lay at Beck Funeral Home.
