National executives Grover C. Schmidt Jr. of Fort Benton and W. Charles Wallace of Anaconda were elected for two-year terms. A United Air Lines DC6 with 63 passengers diverted to Elko Nevada after an anonymous call claimed dynamite aboard. A three hour exhaustive search found nothing while the plane jettisoned fuel and landed. passengers were screened, luggage opened, and the craft moved for a full check. The caller said his wife was aboard and hung up.
In Carpentersville Illinois a bullet pierced body of an unidentified man was found in a car north of town. The victim carried 3900 in large bills hidden in his socks and was initially identified as Joseph J Restagno a Chicago man under indictment for hijacking clothing valued at 300000. Restagno’s estranged wife disputed the identification and a Kane County coroner called the murder a very professional job.
