Robert Lester and Braxton Mitchell, cousins from Butte, finished a 52 day 1300 mile paddle from Silver Bow Creek to the Pacific Beach on July 2. They used the Clark Fork Pend Oreille and Columbia rivers for the route to Oregon. Lester, 26, has mountaineering and skiing background and grew up in Elk Park.
Greenway project manager Dori Skrukrud urged the Upper Clark Fork River Basin council for 3.5 million to push the 26 mile Silver Bow Creek Greenway closer to completion. Council tentatively allocated 2.5 million with a 25 percent match mandate, while supporters argued the project blends ecological aims with public access.
SkyWest seeks commuter authority for SkyWest Charter to operate regional jet routes using pilots with fewer flight hours. The carrier, which already serves Butte and West Yellowstone with Essential Air Service, says a shortage of about 10,000 captains exists after early COVID retirements. SkyWest Airlines currently flies Salt Lake City to West Yellowstone and Butte routes.
