Mexican fisherman survives 18 days adrift in Gulf rowboat
Carlos Prado Uribie, 20, of Progresso Yucatan, drifted 534 miles in an 8 foot boat after a storm. A Belgian crewman on the Escaut spotted him in the Gulf of Mexico and helped extract him. He said he attempted suicide with a rope on day 12 and survived on milk and rain water and fish. The ship fed him and his crew collected about $20 and gave him clothes.
