The 44th annual Montana American Legion gathering wraps with resolutions and officer elections scheduled for Sunday. National Commander Charles L. Bacon spoke at the Saturday banquet at Butte Civic Center where Earl M. Genzberger served as toastmaster. Funeral of the Idaho party aside, Bacon and auxiliary head Mrs. J. Howard McKay arrived from Salmon to join sessions and the parade. Joe Schwartz of Anaconda and E. J. Callaghan of Helena are named as possible department commander candidates.

American Student Sentenced to Hard Labor in East Berlin
Robert E. Mann, 19, a Stanford University sophomore from Sepulveda California, was sentenced by a Communist court in East Berlin to 21 months at hard labor for helping an East Berlin youth flee to the West. The six months he spent in jail awaiting trial will be subtracted from the sentence. Mann remained cheerful and expressed hope for clemency before Christmas.
