The Soviet Tass agency reports Luna 15 launched Sunday to study the Moon and space near it. The mission aims to reach the Moon in about three days, potentially observing Apollo 11 as it lands. Tass notes steady radio contact and normal systems with the spacecraft.
Pope Paul VI urged Christians worldwide to pray for the Apollo 11 astronauts. He praised the moon mission as a giant achievement and spoke from Castel Gandolfo, noting his upcoming Uganda trip. The Vatican echoed U.S. space agency praise and offered cautious views on Soviet lunar efforts.
Apollo 11 faces a heavy workload but Frank Borman says an eighty percent chance of completing all assignments is likely. He notes Luna 15’s lunar dust sample aim and emphasizes the crew’s peril in landing and takeoff, not exploration.

Police report three boys aged nine to 12 arrested after an outbreak of house and car burglaries on the west side of Butte. Detectives Gaspar and Sullivan led the probe. up to 10 youths believed involved, with burglaries totaling around ten in weeks past. Victims reported cash and jewelry missing including a diamond ring and $76. The same group is suspected in vandalism at the Paul Clark Home on South Excelsior.
