Montana forecasts total 10 major field crops to rise 13 percent over 1956, though state report projects 6 percent below the 1955 peak. Harvest from 8,777,000 acres, up 206,000 acres from 1956 but 270,000 under 1955. Wheat at 92,978,000 bushels, up 7 percent year to year but 15 percent below 1955.
Southern opposition clears way for Tuesday vote around 3 p.m. MST on a motion to bring the civil rights bill to the floor. The measure would create a Civil Rights Commission, a Civil Rights Division in the Justice Department, and allow federal court injunctions against voting and civil rights violations.
A 42-year-old Three Forks girl Nola Lee Hart disappeared from a Silver Lake picnic site Friday around 8 p.m. She was found within two hours by her father in rugged mountain terrain a mile away. Hart and two family dogs were missing. volunteers joined deputies and the highway patrol in a search that drew over 100 people. The sheriff reported the girl in excellent condition but scared. The search ended when the father confirmed she was found.
Funeral arrangements are announced for Mrs Laura Leipheimer wife of E G Leipheimer prominent Montana newspaperman and former Montana Standard editor. She died Friday morning at Hotel Dieu Hospital Polson after months of illness. Services will be at Polsons Presbyterian Church Monday at 2 p m with Rev William Copeland officiating.
In Knoxville the Southern defense team failed to block admission of a Tennessee White Citizens Council charter copy as evidence in the Clinton segregation trial. Judge Tayor allowed the document despite protests, while defense members mocked the victory with jokes about a White Citizens Council hamburger fry and ordinary membership.
Beaverhead County coroner said pilot Jim Leonard 52 died when his spruce budworm spray plane crashed into Sawtooth Lake near Dillon. Recovery delayed until rescue units bring heavier gear. wreckage spans Sawtooth Mountain with body in 12 to 15 feet of water.

The Senate Appropriations Committee approved a 164.1 million dollar reclamation construction program for the coming year, boosting total by about six million over the House but below Eisenhower’s request.
