In Wakeham Massachusetts on July 12 Calvin Coolidge planned to cut a fishing trip short to return to Northampton where his wife’s mother Lemira Goodhue is seriously ill. Coolidge intended to depart after inspecting local fish hatcheries and trout ponds and streams. He caught 18 trout yesterday during the fishing trip.
Henry Ford used a personal check to repay a two cent loan at a jubilee honoring Edison in Atlantic City. He borrowed two pennies from J. F. Quinlan, secretary of the jubilee committee, and Quinlan will not cash the check.

Indian man Joe Daile, 35, a quarter breed, was said to have ended a several days drinking party at Edison Washington by killing two men and his sweetheart and perhaps fatally injuring another woman. He reportedly fled to Mount Vernon after the incident on July 1.

Rear Admiral Thomas P. Magruder, once cited for criticizing the department, is restored to active duty and named commander of the fleet base force in the Pacific with headquarters at San Pedro. The Navy announced the assignment after Magruder outlined his defense of magazine articles he wrote. President Hoover is said to support the reinstatement as part of the move.
James B Risque veteran mining engineer and former Bi Metallic Mining manager in Philipsburg died at his Stamford Connecticut home at 72 He was linked to Ben B Thayer as a sister in law and long active in Montana mining in the 1880s and 1890s The obituary notes his 1889 marriage to a Renouard sister and his later role with The Coal and Iron Company with continued coverage on page 11.
