WNC students win scholarships for 1969 70

Fifty five Western Montana College students were named Advanced Honor Scholarship recipients for the 1969 70 year. The awards exempt holders from registration and incidental fees worth about 75 dollars per quarter or 225 dollars for the year. Winners listed by hometown include Dillon Butte Anaconda Helena Sheridan Deer Lodge Willow Creek and others with names of students such as Jim Abbas Kathleen Basolo Anita Engstrom and Doreen Caldwell.

Butte Native Jack Geach Dies at 48

Jack Porky Geach 48 of 3140 St Ann St a Skagg Dry Store manager died in a local hospital Friday. Born October 29 1920 in Butte he was a WWII Air Force veteran and member of Silver B's Rimrock Lodge Billings Masonic Lodge AF AM BPOE Chapter 240 Aldersgate Church and Odgen transfer to Butte two years ago. Survivors include wife Freda son John daughters Jackilyn Betty and Lorrie Geach brothers Henry Bennett and Paul Bennett and several nieces and nephews.

Oregon City man Dan Bartley dies after sudden illness

Daniel F. Bartley, 31, of Oregon City Oregon and former Anaconda resident, died Friday morning after a brief hospitalization. Born August 28, 1937 in Rolla North Carolina, he came to Anaconda in 1951. Survived by his mother Ida Bartley Lombardi of 1216 E Fifth. a brother Joseph Bartley. a sister Mrs Doug Finnegan of Portland. and several nephews and nieces. Funeral arrangements pending at Finnegan Co. Funeral Home with Mass at St Peter Church and burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

John Sullivan dies. longtime Butte resident and city worker

John Sullivan a lifelong resident of Butte died Friday in a local hospital. He was a city maintenance man, a St Mary Parish member, and World War I veteran. Survivors include sister Katherine Sullivan of Deer Lodge and many nieces and nephews. Services at St Mary Church Monday. burial in Bishop Finnigan plot Holy Cross Cemetery. Leonard Smith Rites Conducted at Wayrynen Funeral Home

Services for Leonard Smith were held Friday at the Wayrynen Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Link officiating. A student earns dean's list honors at University of Denver

A 2019 Princeton A student Harry Plate earned straight A grades and was named to the dean's list at the University of Denver for the spring quarter. Also named to the honor students list was Richard Christen Sen of Bozeman.

Annie Bohnet of 50944 S Idaho died Friday afternoon in a local hospital. A native of Fulda Minnesota she came to Butte over 12 years ago from Lemmon South Dakota. She was a member of St Patrick Parish. Survivors include her son Dick Bohnet Wallace Idaho, daughters Cecil Morrow Deer Lodge Henry Hinrichs Minnesota James Sullivan Butte seven grandchildren two great grandchildren two brothers Frank Ulrich Butte John Ulrich Elgin North Dakota and a sister Mary Haick Minnesota. Dolan's Mortuary is in charge of pending arrangements.

Wisconsin family named Tourists of the Week in Butte

A Wisconsin family of four from Ashland was selected Friday as Tourists of the Week for Butte. Mr and Mrs Donald Nichol with sons Myron 22 and Jeffrey 10 toured the Berkeley Pit and World Museum of Mining while staying at the Grand Hotel. They were hosted by Rev Robert Link with meals from Top Deck and Maxom as part of Butte Chamber of Commerce promotions.

Battalion withdrawals begin as 9th Division pulls out

Saigon reports the 14th Battalion 47th Infantry with 800 men will depart Bien Hoa by air for deactivation at Fort Lewis. This follows the 3rd Battalion 60th Infantry's recent departure, signaling the first wave of a planned 25 000 American troop withdrawals by August. Former Butte minister to speak at Kansas City assembly

James T. Funston former presiding minister of the Butte Jehovahs Witnesses and now a circuit supervisor in the Sioux Falls area will be a featured speaker at the Peace on Earth International Assembly in Kansas City Missouri July 18 25. He will speak July 21 on Loving Oversight of the Congregation of God through District and Circuit Servants. The eight day event at Municipal Stadium will gather more than 36000 delegates from 50 states and at least 18 foreign countries. The Kansas City assembly is one of seven U S conventions with 18 more worldwide. The program emphasizes the Bible as an indispensable book with lively discussions and dramas for all ages.
