Butte to Lose Two Longstanding Stores Higgin’s Hallmark and Bob Ward’s
Two Butte retailers will close with Higgin’s Hallmark in Plaza Mall ending operations as of August 3 and Bob Ward’s Sports & Outdoors slated to shut mid September. Higgin’s Hallmark opened as Lenz Cards & Gifts in 1968 and was renamed by Terry Richardson who took ownership in 1990. Bob Ward’s, opened 1973 and moved to 1925 Dewey Blvd in 1989, was bought by Al’s Sporting Goods in 2022. The store closures affect 20 plus employees at Bob Ward’s and leave Higgin’s Hallmark to conclude after decades in the mall. Officials cite economic strain for Higgin’s, while Bob Ward’s exact reason remains undisclosed.
