James H. Dwyer, 70, of 815 Quartz Street, was held captive by a mother bear near Philipsburg while fishing on Copper Creek. After a nocturnal stand, relatives found him and, with effort, coaxed the animal away. Dwyer escaped with scratches and torn trousers, recounting a near eight foot tree jump and a humorous preacher joke. Relatives from Los Angeles joined the camping party and helped during the rescue.
