Smelter crafts unions affiliated with the Anaconda Building and Metal Trades Council plan special meetings to vote on a company offer extending to July 1 1964 with retroactive wage increases. Meetings are set in Anaconda Butte and Great Falls with 28 unions covered by the agreement.
Montana Democrats at their 1962 state platform convention chose Robert A. Durkee of Havre to represent the party as candidate for state auditor in November. Durkee, 46, a Hill County state senator and businessman, won on the first ballot with 113 votes. Barrett named party chairman on succeeding MacDonald.
In a Saturday keynote at the Montana Democratic state convention Leo C. Graybill Jr. charged the Montana Power Co. with dominating the GOP. Rep. Arnold Olsen campaigned for reelection pledging to vote with Western Montana Democrats and the rank and file. Olsen addressed farm issues and medicare policy as part of his convention remarks.
A stray sheep wandered into Madison police headquarters causing a brief halt to other duties. Officers captured the animal and planned a safe recovery from the station lobby. The incident shocked staff but ended without injury or damage.
Salt Lake City UPI Kennecott Copper Corp faces a looming strike deadline as negotiations stall. The United Steelworkers and the International Union of Mine Mill and Smelter Workers plus 16 other unions at Kennecott properties remain without a contract, with no resumption of talks evident.
Butte fair today through Monday with a high near 78 and a low around 41. East of Divide expect fair for Sunday and Monday with highs 75 to 90 and Sunday night lows 45 to 60. West of Divide sees fair conditions Sunday and Sunday with highs 75 to 85 and Sunday night lows 38 to 48. The table notes maximums reflect 12 hour values, minima 18 hours, and 24 hour precipitation ending 5 p.m. MST Saturday.
Rep. David S. King of Utah spoke at the Montana Democratic convention banquet in the Finlen Hotel. He urged programs to deepen freedom and criticized obstructionism while outlining a forward moving Democratic agenda before about 400 attendees.

A one car crash four miles west of Terry on U S Highway 10 Saturday afternoon killed Arkansas woman Dora Mae Riley 32 and her one year old daughter Glendalin. The husband was critically injured. The child died at Miles City hospital about two hours later. The deaths raise the 1962 traffic toll to 103.
