More than 400 lives were imperilled when the steamship Prince George and the coast guard cutter Agassiz collided in dense fog about 60 miles off Boston. The Prince George suffered heavy damage and 249 passengers were transferred to the Agassiz. Passengers praised the coast guards for their rescue as they were landed at Boston docks by the cutter Mojave and destroyer Wainwright. The Prince George lay at Bethlehem drydock in East Boston.
