Butte Fourth of July concert delayed by bus breakdowns

The Santa Ana Winds band concert in Butte was postponed from Saturday night to Sunday noon after an 87 member bus broke down twice en route, once near Ely Nevada and again south of Pocatello. The group will perform at Stodden Park and a Sunday rescheduled show follows. The committee ponders 87 donated chicken dinners for the band’s Saturday supper, likely to be given to nursing homes or charities. The Navy Band also faced a breakdown on Monida Pass but most members hitchhiked to Butte for a Friday parade.

Butteman killed in dune buggy flip

Frank Dowland, 23, of 1642 Warren, died Saturday about 12 25 a m when the dune buggy he drove overturned in the county sandpits east of Bert Mooney Airport. He was dead on arrival at Silver Bow General Hospital after being pinned beneath the vehicle. A passenger, Pat, 1333 Utah, was unhurt. Dowland’s parents were camping at Canyon Ferry Lake and were notified. Funeral services for Dowland will be held Monday at 1 in Duggan Merrill Dolan Mortuary with burial in Mountain aa Cemetery.
