In Kalispell Montana five people drowned when their car slid off a ferry into the Flathead River. After hours of search about 200 men recovered Lloyd Ripke and the other four victims from the sedan. Mrs Ripke survived by breaking a window and escaping with her baby as ferry attendant Albert Koppang rescued her.
San Francisco July 5 Engagement of Miss Mary Cecelia Clark a San Francisco society girl to Baron James Bayens of France was revealed with a London cablegram. The wedding is planned for this fall. Miss Clark is the daughter of Charles W. Clark Jr. and Mrs. Clark and granddaughter of the late United States Senator William A Clark of Butte Montana.
Harold Lafount national radio commissioner for the fifth district spoke at the Silver Bow club outlining channel limits and district disparities. He noted only 30 channels available for 300 stations, praised limited power for broader reach, and urged Montana receive more stations to improve local reception.
Liverpool New South Wales July 5 Almost the entire town is searching woodland behind Milton for three missing girls aged 7 and two girls aged 4 Doris Martin Mildred Martin both four. Two hundred men scoured the woods by lantern lights through the night and today more volunteers joined the search.
Five cars tangled on the Butte Anaconda highway one mile west of Rocker. Three men were injured with two taken to Murray hospital in serious condition. Garde Wood 35 manager of Mutual Creamery and Steve Zeringhoff of Deer Lodge railroad employee were among those hospitalized. Elmer Manion 40, a dairy man, cursed his stepson Clifford Peterson before the May 14 shooting in Peterson's home. Peterson shot Manion after a quarrel, the coroner's inquest heard. Peterson testified as Gaynor Peterson, a Montana State freshman, identified Manion’s threats. The jury found Manion died from lung punctures and hemorrhage caused by the pistol shot.
Helena July 5. Montana highway engineer Ralph D. Rader says a two day Western Association of Highway Officials meeting in Boise July 9 and 10 will focus on securing greater federal appropriations for national forest road construction. He notes forest roads speed Montana and western states toward a complete highway system, with 30 years needed at current rates.
At Mineola on July 5 a signed witness statement links a midair fight with hitch hikers to the death of Wilmer Stultz, a noted trans Atlantic flyer, and two others. Autopsy revealed Stultz’s brain and abdomen contained alcohol, prompting public debate over aviation safety and the status of Stultz as a freelance pilot.

Early morning flames leveled a two room frame home at 2221 Cottonwood street and a three room frame at 2223 Cottonwood street. Both had been unoccupied for months and used as a play area for children. Firefighters from the McQueen addition volunteer department saved nearby homes including the Hay residence at 2225 Cottonwood street.
Henry J. Warren of Brookline reports that Charles W. Goodale a Montana mining engineer left a $50,000 gift to his alma mater MIT. The will not probated yet but designated the money for the dormitory or endowment fund as chosen by trustees. He was a leading booster of MIT and Boy Scouts in Montana.
