United Press International reports a record Fourth of July traffic toll as of 11:30 p.m. EDT with 117 fatalities since Tuesday 6 p.m. Local totals by state include California 13 New York 12 Minnesota and Tennessee eight each Texas seven North Dakota six and several states five. The Safety Council forecast 110 to 150 highway deaths for the holiday period.

100th Death Recorded In Montana Highway Crash
Montana recorded its 100th highway fatality of the year with the death of 22 year old Jack Lee Lykins of Geyser after a head on collision on U S 87 four miles east of Armington Junction near Great Falls. The other driver 19 year old Bruce McRobie and passenger Ronald Berg both of Great Falls were injured. Coroner and patrolmen report Lykins was likely on the wrong side of the road at impact.
