Nearly 15,000 residents and visitors lined Butte streets to watch a long colorful parade from downtown to South Side. Police Chief James Clark gave the crowd estimate as patriotic displays and old days scenes unfolded along the route. Weather was ideal with bright sun and a 58 degree start. Meeting the crowd’s enthusiasm were floats and entries from religious to humorous themes, with Anaconda cooperation noted as Mayor Carl Anderson led a delegation with the Anaconda High School band.

Butte Man Admits Shooting Stepson Over Crying Children
Alfred Haugen 45 admitted shooting Randolph Wixson 19 during a family dispute at 19 E Plattnum in Butte. Wixson was struck in the chest by a .38 revolver bullet and treated at St James Community Memorial Hospital. Haugen says Randolph threatened him with a .22 rifle and caused the younger children to cry.

Two Die In State Road Wreck Near Homestead
A head on collision on State Highway 16 two miles east of Homestead killed pickup driver Daniel Hanson, 65, and a bus passenger Mrs. John Wolters.
